The increasing of both clinical and common narcissist has been acknowledged. Their growing number of
narcissistic is now becoming a serious problem. It has been rifed in many aspects of our
society. By trying to realize their existence, a company will enjoy a lucrative benefit of narcicist. Rather than trying to restrict narcissist activity, company can
enhance their productivity by understanding the underlying reason.
I was standing in the middle of crowd when I noticed
that everybody was holding their smart phones to post a comment, take a
picture, e-mailing, browsing, and others. I don't say it is morally wrong,
but something catches my eyes. Does frequent gadget usage increase their
narcissism level? How does a narcissist use the internet in the workplace?

major trigger of clinical narcissist, instead of common narcissist.
Research regarding narcissist in workplace has
been increased. According to academicians, internet usage was separated into
two activities, activities related their job and activities related their
interest. Narcissist tends to use internet (via their gadget) to access website
related their interest only. They avoid internet activities related work,
because it has no advantage to their positive image. The higher their
narcissism level, the higher they eschew job-related activities. Then how to
handle narcissist in the workplace?
Here are several steps to
handle narcissistic:
1. Understanding your employee. You have to start mapping your employee in order to treat them more
effectively. There are several methods to map your employee.If you want the easier way, NPI (Narcissistic
Personality Inventory) provides a good instrument, but if you doubt to ask your
employee directly, you can use the
unobtrusive measurement, measurement based on the availability the obvious
self-body image.
2. Combined your two narcissist employee to
work as a team. Research by Goncalo, et al. shows that two narcissist better
than one in team. They will generate more creative and useful ideas. The competition between those leads more benefit to your company.
3. Understanding that the existence of narcissist is unavoidable. This
person creates a good impression during the interview process. They can be so charming in
the beginning, before putting your company in a big risk. If you have been
hired one, then try to provide job description which match to their
self-interest. Dealing with their self-interest is the best way to handle.
For instance, narcissist usually can be a good negotiator or a
lobbyist, because they have a natural ability to convince people in their first impression. Putting a tons of rules will only promotes more internet
misuse. It mistly like assign a curfew
in tenager.
4. Build a good climate to sustain the overall
employee commitment. This is the hardest way, but also a greatest way to
decrease narcissist for being harmful for a company.
Well, narcissist will definitely increase in
number, but being resistant is never the answer. Facing with wise steps will
inspire the employee to do more for the company
